an 8-Week Celebration of Revolutionary Care
Our Ancestral Guide & healing muse
"We have a long fight, and this fight is not mine alone. But you are not free, whether you are white or Black, until I am free." - Fannie Lou Hamer.
Inspired by the enduring spirit of Fannie Lou Hamer and commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Freedom Summer, we proudly introduce "Freedom Summer School 2024."
A Brief History:
The Mississippi Summer Project and Freedom Schools
The 1964 Mississippi Summer Project aimed to increase Black voter registration and political power, exposing white supremacy in US politics and the Democratic Party. Led by Black civil rights organizers and local leaders, the project involved trained white college student organizers to highlight the dehumanization of Black bodies in Mississippi, where racial trauma and terror were pervasive.
Freedom Schools, created by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), provided a liberatory education to supplement the inadequate schooling for Black people in Mississippi. These schools inspired Black citizens to question unjust laws, despite the dangers, and aimed to help Black bodies access their inherent resource and agency. This education fostered radical imagination and envisioned new possibilities for the future.
On August 23, 1964, Fannie Lou Hamer boldly exposed the depths of US apartheid and state-sanctioned terror at the Democratic National Convention, despite attempts to silence her. Her legacy as a light leader and spirit guide for embodied trauma healing and liberation inspires our journey in Freedom Summer School, where we transform pain into possibility and co-create a future of justice and care.
The Alchemists: Fannie lou hamer & chiron
Led by Erin Trent Johnson, this 8-week program centers Black women in ecosystems of care, exploring themes of healing, community, and liberation through sacred practices and rituals. Guided by Hamer’s revolutionary wisdom and embodiment, participants will delve into her profound lessons on healing, justice, and mutual aid.
The program draws from her legacy with the Freedom Farm Collective, emphasizing the importance of sharing, faith, spiritual fortitude, and ancestral intelligence as pathways for healing practice and study.
At the core of Freedom Summer School 2024 is the guidance of Chiron, the Wounded Healer. Through the language of astrology, we focus on Chiron's medicine, embracing the pain portals as invitations to transform. Fannie Lou Hamer's legacy, much like Chiron's, teaches us that our wounds offer pathways to create and share our medicine. By honoring Chiron, we learn to regulate our nervous systems, heal from trauma, and alchemize our wounds into possibilities. This cosmic guidance helps us build new pathways together, emphasizing survival, resilience, and discernment.

Freedom Summer School is a Community of Practice and Workshop Series dedicated to Spiritual Somatic Practices for healing. We create a space where Black women’s bodies are seen as sites of care and repair, moving beyond survival to true healing and liberation.
This sacred space fosters inquiry, practice, and collective healing, helping participants reconnect with their bodies, the earth, and their spirits. Through the revolutionary lens of Fannie Lou Hamer and cosmic intelligence, we will practice somatic inquiry, storytelling, creative expression, and more.
This journey is designed for healers, caregivers, movement workers, and all those seeking to transform their wounds into medicine, learning to trust themselves deeply in the process. Together, we will honor Fannie Lou Hamer’s life, elevate her spirit, and co-create the futures we desire.
